Why I Hate Microsoft

Because their high profile employees are both arrogant and ignorant: "We have all the latest and greatest that no one else does, no one can live without Microsoft, who cares about interoperability..." etc. etc.

Check out Robert Scoble's error-encrusted post. And then read the comments where people try to correct his blatant misstatements.

If you need to buy a new computer, please consider a Mac: compatibility issues are solvable, the price differential (for what you get) is much less than it used to be, and you will find the user experience a whole lot better. And at least the company won't insult your intelligence on quite such a regular basis.

Frustration!!!!

There is no joy in MIDIville.

My goodies arrived this afternoon: midisport 1 x 1 MIDI interface and the Emagic Big Box (Logic Audio 6). I hooked everything up to my Yamaha PSR-280, fired up Logic, and faced deep frustration.

AAAAAAGGGGH! The software shows the MIDI events, but it won't play the sounds through my speakers. Despite the reasonable looking situation in Audio MIDI setup, I suspect something's up with CoreAudio, but what? Why? Why, Lord, why?!?

In my attempts to resolve the problem, I went to Emagic's website, registered, and then found out I'd have to wait at least a day before being able to access their help database. Why, Lord, why?!?

I joined a Yahoo users group, searched for others with similar problems (and found one, to whom no one had replied in several months) and posted my own message. Which of course won't show up until the moderator looks at it. Why, Lord, why?!?

The software itself is dauntingly complicated. Really scary. I'm going to have to read the manuals a hundred times. I'd say there was a huge market segment available for sequencing software for idiots (Apple, are you listening? You OWN Logic. I want an iCompose!).

But in the meantime I'm just feeling really super-petulant that my new toys are providing me with a big fat zippo at the present moment. Feh! We want results!

If any of you lovely people know anything about any of this, your help would be greatly appreciated.
